Richie's Magic Leather Dust!

Hello everyone:

I have a boot question. A year ago my Sir sustained a rather large (1 inch in diameter) scrape on the top of the toe of his boot and I have been trying to wear it down with elbow grease alone to no avail.

As his boots have been getting shinier, the scrape is becoming more obvious.

Here's the question, what are some suggestions on how to minimize the scrape. The boots are military (Richie, you know the ones I am speaking of) with a hard toe and heel that I spit shine. I had thought of using a hot spoon to try and smooth the leather but have been hesitant to try that for fear that I would mar the leather more than it already is... at this point I am willing to brave the consequences but would like some advice.

He really loves these boots and just had them resoled so buying a new pair is just not an option.

Thanks, in advance, for all your suggestions.

Hi Boy Jean,

Okay! This is what you need for this process:

  • Crazy Glue

  • Leather Dust

  • 1 Spoon

  • 1 Cigar Lighter

Take a pinch of leather dust into your palm

Put a drop of Crazy Glue into the center of the pinch of leather dust...

Role it to a soft ball and pack into the area that has been slashed or pitted or divitted.

Heat up your spoon soup-side in. Burnish the mound till its flat, that means rub till flat.

Do not use sand paper for this process or scotch scrubbies. That will take off a smooth finish. The heat should be enough to melt the surface into your desired flatness. Dye and polish, as usual. It may take several coats of wax, to build up first.

Love and Bootgrease,

Richie
