Cleanliness is Next To…Part 1
By Mistress Genevieve
In almost every article I write, I stress the BDSM lifestyle
credo of "Safe, Sane and Consensual", but, sometimes
"safety first" is far more complex in practice than
it sounds. So, this article covers the safety topic of properly
cleaning and storing your sex toys.
From a simple vibrator to that leather paddle, you may find
sanitary safety points you have over looked. Many books that
educate alternative sex practices don't completely address
this topic, if they discuss them at all.
Even those toys that are only for use on one person should
be cleaned with the same attention to detail as toys that
are used amongst a couple or multiple partners. You might
already know about such communicable diseases as hepatitis,
that can be contracted of unclean toys…but a person who
doesn't properly clean a toy that is only used on themselves
can still become ill due to bacteria on or stored in the
surface of their favorite toys.
When you start a sex toy collection or buy a sex toy you
should already be prepared to clean it after it's use…here
is a list of what you should keep on hand:
-
Gloves
-
Condoms
-
Bleach
-
70% Isopropyl Alcohol
-
Antibacterial Soap
-
And you may choose also to include Hibicleanse or Foreplay
Sex Toy Cleanser
Those that care to go the extra mile especially, if your
play space is used by multiple partners, are advised to
purchase hospital sanitizers such as Matacide, Wavacide,
Sporocidin, or Envirocide.
Not every one can afford to purchase an autoclave, but it is
the ultimate to have if you play with metal toys or have a
medical fetish, which leads to the owning and use of medical
surgical steel instruments. But don't fret…you can simulate
the conditions of an autoclave with the use of a pressure
cooker, autoclave pouches and distilled water. Remember not
to put any rubber or plastic items in the pressure or
autoclave. If using the pressure cooker do not allow the
water to completely evaporate or it will ruin your pressure
cook and surgical steel items being cleaned.
DO'S AND DON'T FOR BEGINNER
-
DON'T use an insertable toy from anus to vagina even if
only used on one person.
-
DON'T use oil based products such as oil based
lubricants, lotions, perfumes, and make-ups with latex
barriers such as latex condoms, gloves, intimate toys, or
latex clothing.
-
DON'T use silicon lubricants on silicon toys.
-
DON'T store battery operated devices with the batteries
in them.
-
DON'T expose your toys to direct sunlight or heat.
-
DON'T soak your surgical steel or stainless steel in
bleach, even if diluted by water.
-
DON'T submerge battery packs of battery operated toys
when cleaning.
-
DO allow toys to dry after cleaning and before next use.
-
DO use condoms on all latex, silicon, and cyber-skin
toys. Better to just make a habit of using condoms with all
insertable toys., unless you or your partner has a latex
allergy.
